RoSal's
is the dream imagined so many years ago by Roseanne and
Salvatore; hence RoSal's.
They both
grew up in
Chicago’s “Little Italy”. Roseanne grew up in her
grandfather’s four-flat a few blocks away from Taylor &
Loomis,
where she was
raised with twenty cousins; eating, playing and sharing the
joys of childhood. Salvatore grew up on Taylor &
Carpenter and worked in the food business his whole life; as
a youngster before school he would start the bread that his
parents sold in their Italian bakery where he worked before
and after school. At 17 he bought his own grocery store Sol’s
West Side Foods on Taylor Street, where he
was know for the freshest
meat in the city and the heartiest welcome.
In the early part of 1990
Rose and Sol decided
it was time for a change and time to pursue their first true
love; cooking, eating and letting others in on their special
flair for entertaining. Despite Salvatore’s background
in the food business, neither of them knew anything about
managing a restaurant. Family and friends were not
very supportive
of the idea that the Perry’s were
going to spend their retirement
years opening
up a restaurant,
nonetheless they
did. Roseanne
literally
packed up her kitchen and moved back to Taylor Street.
The Perry’s and their son Sol
Jr. worked endlessly on perfecting every family recipe,
which now needed to feed more than
just
neighborhood kids and the family on Sunday's.
Salvatore looked to the neighborhood to find the perfect
chef to join their
family; Anival has grown up working in most of
the Taylor Street kitchens so it didn’t take long for
Roseanne to teach him all of her recipes which have been
passed on from loved one’s dating back over 100 years.
The
family business continues to expand in the hands
of Cynthia & Joe
Fulco, along with their children Alex Rose, Joseph & Giavanna. For the past three years, Joe & Cyndi
continue the dream through
their combined love of family, friends and
food. Although
Salvatore & Roseanne are still an intricate part
of the preparation of
all the food
served at RoSal's; they are now
starting to pursue their love of travel and
spending more time with their grandchildren. You will still
come across Sol, Rose and Joe at the
market several
times a week picking the finest ingredients so
that Anival
can prepare
your meal fresh when ordered.
In the
winter of 2008 we
hope to start the expansion of
our kitchen
so that we can better
serve our guests. Be certain our
family atmosphere
and charm will
not change and the quality, service and dining experience
you now receive at RoSal's
will only get better.
Rose,
Sol, Cynthia & Joe
Along with all of our RoSal's family
